The 10 Cheapest and 10 Most Expensive Countries To Rent a Car

Air travel has been brought to somewhat of a standstill in 2020, which has travellers seeking alternative ways to get around. Domestic travel has picked up in countries around the world with international travel being discouraged in western countries.

ChooseMyCar has shared the average rates of car rentals in 100 countries, revealing which countries had the highest and lowest average rental costs. The rates were based on one-week rentals.

The study involved searching for available data using Avis to search for car rental prices from airports in capital cities around the world. ChooseMyCar searched for mid-size cars for a driver aged 30 or over.

Whereas one might think tourist hubs such as the UK, Italy, France, the United States or Thailand would feature the highest rates, they are in fact, closer to the middle of the pack. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the lowest and highest weekly rental rates on the market.

Final Thoughts

It certainly has been a challenging year in many ways for the car rental industry. The countries hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic saw rental rates drop with travel taking a dip. It will be interesting to see which countries will emerge as bargains for rentals when travel resumes at a pace similar to 2019 levels.
